Prayer Beads Ministry

Planting Seeds of Light

Rose City Park United Methodist Church’s Prayer Beads Ministry offers people of all ages and spiritual backgrounds a simple way to create moments of peace, reflection, and connection in daily life.

The ministry began when church members made 300 nine-bead prayer sets for Christmas Eve worship. After receiving a positive response, the group expanded the project by creating prayer beads to leave throughout the community for others to discover.

Each set includes a message reminding the finder that the beads were made for them and may be used to connect with God, a Higher Power, or their own spiritual practice.

Prayer beads have been placed on park benches, along walking and biking paths, in laundry rooms, doctors’ offices, hospitals, and Little Free Libraries.

Gather, Learn and Create

Ministry gatherings include:

  • Prayer bead-making

  • Information about prayer beads in Christian tradition

  • Ideas for prayer, meditation, and reflection

  • Community outreach

  • A simple shared meal

The beads are intentionally inclusive and may be used by people of any faith tradition or no particular tradition.

Everyone is invited to join, bring a friend, and experience how this simple practice can bring peace to individuals and the wider community.

Each set of prayer beads given away plants a seed of light.

Ways to Participate

Participants can:

  • Attend a prayer bead-making gathering

  • Create beads at home

  • Pray for the person who will receive them

  • Donate beads, charms, or supplies

  • Distribute completed sets throughout the community

No crafting experience is needed, and all materials are provided.

If you found one of our prayer beads, please
consider letting us know where you found it
as well as anything else you would like to share.
